What's for Dinner?
A common question in just about every household and if you are lucky like me you get to hear the question multiple times throughout the day and while I’m making it! It never really seems to matter what I make, but everyone wants to know ahead of time what it will be…like there is another option if they don’t like it-HA!
The rule in my house…Eat what is served or go without. That has been the rule since my first-born started eating food and so far it has served us well and he eats a very well-rounded diet.
Now, get ready for a healthy dose of honesty… for many people what is being served for breakfast, lunch and dinner seems to be an option. Inevitably they end up with picky eaters, scratching their heads wondering why their kiddos will not eat. I’m inclined to think it might have something do with the kids knowing they have alternative…perhaps it is something they like better. You better believe even the sweetest of kids will hold out (even if they like what is being served) for something they like even better-say, peanut butter and jelly or sweetened cereal or even fruit.
My kids are not perfect eaters and occasionally they are picky eaters, but it usually passes quickly. If they do refuse to eat a particular food, I do not force the issue, we move on and I do not offer snacks when they refuse to eat what is served. Instead they wait until the next meal…your child will not starve between meals.
Sooo, what was for dinner tonight? Coriander brown rice and quinoa with roasted cauliflower and parmesan crusted chicken. And yes, both my kids ate their dinner and yes, I was asked multiple times “What’s for dinner?”
